Minnesota Kids' Choice Book Awards!

Every year, the Minnesota Youth Reading Awards sponsors two state-wide Kids' Choice Reading Contests!

Kids across Minnesota join together to read some great books and vote for their favorites in these exclusive KIDS'-ONLY Awards!

The Star of the North nominees are picture books.  Traditionally this contest is for Kinders-2nd grade students, but the best of these nominees are shared with 3rd-5th grade students, as well.

Kids in 3rd-8th grades participate in the Maud Hart Lovelace Contest.  Nominated titles are works of fiction of recognized quality selected by independent regional reading groups throughout Minnesota.

Maud Hart Lovelace was a Minnesota author who grew up in Mankato, Minnesota. Her Betsy, Tacy, and Tib books tell of her own childhood in the town she calls Deep Valley.

Minnesota named their Kids' Choice Student Book Award after Maud Hard Lovelace to honor her and all authors who write for kids.

To participate in these reading challenges, students read or listen to as many of this year's nominees as they can. In March, the students vote on their favorite book from the list, and on April 25, the anniversary of Maud's birthday, the winner for both the Star of the North and the Maud Hart Lovelace contests are announced.
